Sacred Plant Medicine is a Great Opener…What Happens Next Is Up To You!

Reading Facebook posts in one of my favorite ayahuasca groups, I have observed many folks asking if ayahuasca cures this or gets rid of that, makes us believe this or stop believing that.  After several years working with plant medicines including ayahuasca, I respectfully wish to offer a different perspective on working with plant medicines like ayahuasca in ceremony with intention.

All I have seen has shown me that plant medicines open the places where energy has slowed and become denser and blocked in our bodies and minds…eventually creating illness or dis-ease.  We are shown the emotions and beliefs that created this in a way that is both unique and specific to each individual.  Then we have the opportunity to release those blocks and restore flow, which allows new energy and information to flow through us from our hearts, souls, bodies, higher selves, and beings outside ourselves (both incarnate and discarnate).  This powerful, expansive, restorative process is healing, but it is only the beginning.  If we don’t change our daily lifestyle and habits to preserve and expand this opening, then slowly day by day we will close again.  As my medicine man says, “The real work isn’t in here (ceremony).  It’s out there.  It’s back home.”

To maintain the benefits of ceremony and expand those in the weeks and months thereafter, it is vital we create practices that help us live more consciously day by day.  (I call these vital daily practices.)  We have created habits in certain situations to protect or distract ourselves, so now we must find ways to recognize these in the moment and shift them so we don’t fall right back into our old patterns and close up.  Moreover, these conscious-living daily practices like meditation, yoga, breath work, sound therapy, journaling, etc. can even expand on the work we have done in ceremony.

Yes, ceremony is a magical experience!  However it is an opener to restore our connection to ourselves, the world around us, and our Divine guidance.  After that, it is our habits (from the foods we eat to the water we drink to what we put on our skin to our friends to our vices to our mindfulness practices to how we interact with others in our communities to…) that have the power to transform our lives!  That’s our job, not ayahuasca’s or san pedro’s or mushroom’s or anything external.  Transformation is an inside job!

If I may ever be of assistance to you in shifting your habits and perspective to facilitate continuing your journey of possibilities, please do not hesitate to contact me.
