Your Own Wizard of Oz

Remember a few years ago when you were going through that really difficult time?  At the beginning you felt like it was just too much and there was no way you could possibly do it.  You wondered if you could be strong enough and you just knew that everything was not alright.  You even doubted if it ever would be.  The days seemed to last forever as you went through challenge after challenge.  You felt a bit like Dorothy and friends fighting their way toward the great and mighty Oz and finally trembling before him.  Can you take yourself back for a moment to all the fear and anger and insecurity and determination that you felt during that time?

One thing is certain.  You overcame that period in time and discovered that the mighty Oz (whatever the nature of the problem, person, or time) was not as big and scary and ominous as he seemed.  You learned the most important lesson that Dorothy and her friends discovered in their travels: you had everything you needed inside of you all along!

Why dredge up our ugly past or talk about a movie so old that it was the first film in technicolor?  It’s simple.  Today you are facing something that seems overwhelming in your life again.  Even worse, possibly you’ve given up and decided it is simply too much for you.  You feel just like you felt back then, forgetting that you overcame that struggle!  You CAN overcome this one too.  All that you need is within you to heal, move mountains, create possibilities, and attract all forces of the Universe to your aid.

Here are a couple of great life secrets from The Wizard of Oz.  Stay on the path and keep moving forward no matter what.  Journey with someone who will encourage you through the fear.  Take your Yellow Brick Road one row of bricks at a time.  Embrace your Good Witch angels and let your Bad Witch fear melt away.  Remember that all you seek is already Divinely housed within you waiting to be used and embraced.  Confidently and gratefully trust and enjoy the Journey!

Love, Addiction, and the Space Where God Belongs

No matter how hard I try, it seems like our relationship just doesn’t work.  He doesn’t seem as interested in me anymore.  We don’t have as much in common as we used to.  We aren’t as physical as we once were.  We argue and fight over stupid stuff.   He’d rather work, go fishing or out with friends, or play on the computer than spend time with me.   I feel empty inside…maybe this diet or that new outfit or this drink or that drug will make me feel better.  The broken cycle that is now my life repeats and repeats and I feel more and more alone and hopeless.  Does any of this sound familiar to you?

Some recovery programs describe it as a hole inside that we try to fill.  That’s as good an analogy as any.  There is an emptiness that temporarily feels better when we find a new love,  buy ourselves something new, or numb out.  Then reality hits and we scramble to feel good again through relationships and/or addictions.

My conscious choice many years ago to begin finding help and making a better life for myself has been a slow, amazing, painful, beautiful journey filled with discoveries.  The most important thing I can share with you concerns that hole we keep trying to fill.   I know now that no good can come from putting people or habits in the space where God belongs!

Rather than the pleasures and pains of that broken cycle, God brings a new Light that gives us deep permanent Peace.  We simply know that everything will be alright and that we are loved no matter what happens.  This Divine unconditional Love defines us!  While the highs are beyond  anything we’ve ever experienced, the dark lows are also gone forever.  In the moments when things again seem to be shifting out of control, we can look to see what or who we are putting in the space where God belongs.   Staying centered through God allows us to finally discover and explore life as our own personal Journey of Possibilities!

Giving Thanks As A Habit Not a Holiday

“Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way” ~ Native American Saying

This quote was on the wall at a body shop where I was awaiting an estimate to replace my headlight kit from clipping a deer late the night before.  I was so sick about my failed attempts not to hit the deer and how I’d done harm to a life now in pain (he lived) because of me that I’d been in an unshakeable funk.  Nonetheless these words shook me on a deeper level about life as a whole.  Pondering that sign, I considered Martha Beck’s words at a conference earlier in the week about how are built to worry, to which I’d considered how nonchalantly we share our worries with others as a normal state of being.  Why don’t we treat blessings the way we do worries?

I need land and a building to start the Journey of Possibilities center here in Texas.  God has shown me a beautiful vision and attracted people to me who are now WAITING for this vision to become a reality!  From the day of that vision, every day has been an opportunity to be grateful that this blessing is coming.  Instead, I often catch myself worrying in thought and conversation about how I can get there.  This is typically treated as normal, both by me and others.  However, on other occasions when I share that I am so excited to have a center opening in the future, and as they learn I don’t have the resources, they look at me skeptically as if I’m a liar!  Rarely does someone remind me to stay positive and know that it’s coming, and it’s a stretch from there to actually be THANKFUL for what is not yet materialized, yet THIS IS THE ROOT OF THE LAW OF ATTRACTION!

What better week than Thanksgiving to consciously shift our awareness when we recognize a thought of fear or worry, and shift to one of thankfulness.  One way to catch ourselves is surround ourselves with others who will remind us, by sharing this message with your friends and family, so they can catch you!  Let’s shift our thoughts and thus our lives, one appreciated blessing at a time…before they appear!
